Preghiera d'abbandono

«Padre, nelle tue mani consegno il mio spirito» Lc 23,46.

«È l’ultima preghiera del nostro Maestro, del nostro Beneamato… Possa essere la nostra… E sia non soltanto quella del nostro ultimo istante, ma quella di tutti i nostri istanti.»

Traduzione :

Father,

I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.

Whatever you may do,
I thank you.

I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me,
and in all your creatures.
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you
with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord,
and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father.

Questa è la preghiera comune a tutti coloro che si richiamano a Charles de Foucauld in ogni parte del mondo; è stata perciò tradotta in numerose lingue.

Charles non l’ha scritta tale e quale: è stata tratta da una meditazione più ampia scritta nel 1896, nella quale cercava di unirsi alla preghiera di Gesù sulla croce.
